Welcome to Miyazaki Kita High School's website

Miyazaki Kita High School is located on the top of a small hill in the northern part of Miyazaki City in Miyazaki Prefecture, on the island of Kyushu in southwestern Japan. Miyazaki city is famous for its warm, sunny climate. Many professional baseball and soccer teams have training camps here because of the warm and sunny climate in winter.  People are gentle, kind and warm-hearted.  Miyazaki is said to be a nice place to live and raise children.  That is because Miyazaki produces healthy and delicious food such as vegetables, meat, and fish.  You can get them very cheaply. Miyazaki has great nature from beautiful beaches on the coast of the Pacific Ocean to magnificent mountains in Kirishima.  Miyazaki City is the largest city in Miyazaki prefecture with more than 400,000 people. Miyazaki city is situated in the southern part of the Miyazaki Plain, facing the Pacific Ocean. Miyazaki is thought to be a root of Japanese Mythology. You can visit a lot of places, where the famous legendary ancestors of the Japanese people used to live.
Our school was established in 1985, as the newest public academic high school in Miyazaki city.  From the time of founding, our school has been producing students, who are cooperative, full of ambition, and innovative spirit.
In 1995, Our school was designated as the first Super Science High School in Miyazaki Prefecture and has been engaged in research on science education and English education through science in hope of producing students who can be very active and useful in the future world. Our society and the world have a lot of difficulties and problems yet to be solved. It is our belief that any obstacle can be overcome with the power of science.  That is why we nurture students who can contribute to the happiness and development of the local community and the world.

Most recently, we have developed a partnership with Kasetsart University Laboratory School in Thailand.  Each year we run an exchange program, allowing a number of students to spend time abroad.
Also, we have invited students from two schools from Taiwan through the Sakura Science Program sponsored by JST(Japan Science and Technology Agency)for the two years.

2. Promote Science Education
Our school has been qualified as " a Super Science High School(SSH) " for the last 16 years, and taking a leading role in developing education.  Last year, our school received certification as a super science school for 5 more years, allowing us to continue as a leading school for promoting cooperation among local schools, government, and companies.

3. Promote Cultural Activities
Our School has a variety of cultural clubs such as tea ceremony club, Japanese musical instrument club, and flower arrangement club to name a few.  We have an art gallery with a lot of excellent art works and a nice Japanese garden with a Japanese tea room, where the tea ceremony club has their activities and often entertains guests from abroad.

School Management and Vision

"Hitch your wagon to a star!"
This is the phrase of our school anthem's last stanza, cited from the poem of the great American philosopher and poet, Ralph Waldo Emerson. This phrase symbolizes our school spirit, since its founding to pursue a dream and realize the ideal world with adamant will; just like the American pioneers who explored the wilderness of the unknown on the horse back. This spirit has been passed down from student to student since its foundation 34 years ago.
Under the mottoes of our school, “Ambition, Solidarity", and "Commitment to pursue high academic and extracurricular activity achievements”, students are full of liveliness and energy and lead really active school lives.  They have achieved many high academic successes and extracurricular goals such as in sports and cultural events.
Located on a small hill, the majority of the students climb up and down over 100 stairs every day to commute to school.

School Visions (Three priorities in this year)

(1) Providing excellent lessons, to guarantee students “credible academic achievement”

(2) Pursue achievement in academic, extracurricular activities and events; “Chasing after 3 rabbits”

(3) Foster the spirit of student autonomy and independence”

I am sure that students will grow by pursuing these three rabbits and acquire the “life skills" required in a rapidly changing society.

Science Course

This course was established in 2004. The aim of this course is to foster students who will become the researchers and scientists. They will contribute to the development of Science and solve the problems of the world with the power of science. To achieve this goal, this course provides a variety of lessons and programs which inspire and interest students from all over Miyazaki Prefecture who have a strong interest in science. Here are a few examples of our fascinating programs; they learn three subjects of science, biology, chemistry, physics, by the best science teachers from Miyazaki Prefecture.  They do authentic research and take part in various contests in Japan and abroad, in 2017 one girl student took part in the international contest held in China and made a presentation on snails. The students also have astronomical observatory workshop, marine workshop, where they took a boat trip to Yakushima, which is designated as World heritage site, and do research on the mechanics of the engine and other machines of the ship ,and do field work on the plants and geology of Yakushima island. They also have science international exchange program with Thai and Taiwanese students. They did science experiments and had a discussion on each other's research with them. They are strongly connected by their enthusiastic interest in science, so their bond is very strong.
After graduation all of them go on to higher education to achieve their dreams. This Science course is the only and most prominent science course in Miyazaki Prefecture.

The aim of Science course is :
(1)To encourage students to learn, think, and solve problems through activities in "science research."
(2)To acquire logical and many-sided views through a variety of workshops and scientific experiments.
(3)To learn and understand methods of surveys, experiments, and observations through lectures and seminars by teachers and outside instructors.
(4)To improve English proficiency by learning science in English through debate, presentation and discussion.
(5)To learn how to communicate and work with others, including foreign students, as a team through group research and exchange activities.
