5Th Graders' English Lesson

Tweet ThisSend to Facebook | by 職員

Today in the fifth grader’s English class, we watch a TEDTalk by Jaime Lerner, a Brazilian politician who introduced a cutting-edge urban planning actions that resulted in the physical, economic and cultural transformation of his city, Curitiba. His statement, “City is not a problem; it’s a solution.”, sums up his vision to turn every problem into an opportunity to create a sustainable city by means of co-responsibility and design.

This topic was introduced to the students in hope to inspire them and to help them to think how they, as students, could do something to make their society more connected, efficient, sustainable and affordable for everyone. Students could be a catalyst for change by thinking of creative solutions to create lasting rewards. (Karyll)

World Café with Masuda Sensei

The other day at world café, the students and I were joined by one of our physical education teacher, Masuda Sensei. This was a refreshing and one of a kind experience! It was the first time ever that a non-English teacher joined the students for world café. Masuda Sensei’s great enthusiasm to use and learn English inspired the students to actively engage in the English conversation.

World Cafe

We finally had our first world café this school year! This activity focuses on a casual conversation in English during lunch time, and it is carried out three times a week. The "café" is open to 3rd year junior high school to 3rd year high school students and teachers,

The picture above was taken this Monday. I’m with the third grade junior high school students. We talked about their future dreams and played conversation games. At first, some kids were a little bit shy, but once we get the conversation going, they became more relaxed and enjoyed the experience.
